Our hotel in Tyrol looks back at a long history of several decades. Our Hotel Hochsölden [LINK Home] is the first hotel in Tyrol’s Hochsölden, the hotel village above Sölden. Serafin Gurschler, the grandfather of your host Christiane, initiated the construction of this extraordinary hotel in Austria as early as in 1933. One year later, the first guests arrived. Then, the arrival was very challenging because at the time, there was only one very steep trail, which served to transport hay and wood from the mountain top down to the valley. Nevertheless, the guests returned, again and again, because it was truly worth it: the panoramic views were incredible.
During the tumultuous years before 1945, only few tourists visited Sölden. The first lift from Sölden to Hochsölden was built in 1948. Then it was the longest lift in Austria and a real asset for our hotel in Tyrol. During times of crisis, when the lift operator risked to fall into bankruptcy, Hermann Gurschler, Christiane’s uncle, and other pioneers in tourism, took over the cable car. This is how, with a lot of invention and pioneering spirit, the Gurschler family helped to make of Sölden what it is today: one of the most popular winter sports locations in Austria.
1975 marked the resort’s final breakthrough: the German national skiing team came to train in Sölden. Sölden had established itself as a popular resort and ski destination number 1 in Austria. Today, Christiane runs Hotel Hochsölden, carrying on her grandfather’s and father’s legacy. Today, passion and pioneering spirit are still the two most important values. Thanks to the professional and accommodating service of the Gurschler family and the entire team at Hotel Hochsölden, our guests keep coming back.
